It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Multicolor' is a mat-forming evergreen perennial with oval or spoon-shaped, bronze-green leaves irregularly margined with cream and deep pink; deep blue flowers from late spring
Black Scallop is a usually-evergreen creeping perennial with very glossy, dark, near-black, scalloped leaves, and short spikes of deep blue flowers in late spring and early summer. The leaves will become darker in lighter, colder conditions
'Purple Torch' is a dense, rapidly-spreading, mat-forming, evergreen perennial, to 20cm tall, with ovate, glossy and wrinkled mid- to dark green leaves that turn a purple-bronze colour in winter. Spikes of soft lavender-pink flowers are borne above the foliage in late spring and early summer
'Atropurpurea' is a vigorous perennial forming a dense mat of deep bronze-purple, ovate leaves and short erect spikes to 15cm tall, of deep blue flowers in late spring and early summer
'Catlin's Giant' is a semi-evergreen perennial forming a mat of large, glossy purple-brown leaves and erect spikes up to 30cm in height, with blue flowers
'Braunherz' is a mat-forming evergreen perennial with spoon-shaped or oval, glossy deep purple leaves and deep blue flowers borne in spikes to 20cm tall, in late spring and early summer
A. reptans is a spreading stoloniferous perennial to 15cm in height, forming a wide mat of dark green obovate leaves, with erect spikes of dark blue flowers in late spring and early summer
'Burgundy Glow' is a creeping perennial with evergreen leaves, silvery-green suffused with wine-red, and short spikes of deep blue flowers in late spring and early summer
