It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
Double Azalea Series are tall snapdragons with open-throated flowers, extra petals giving a ruffled effect. 'Double Azalea Pink' has solid spikes of clear bright pink flowers to 95cm, from late June onwards
R. arborescens is a large, upright deciduous shrub with glossy mid-green leaves turning reddish-green in autumn. Strongly-scented, funnel-shaped white, pink-flushed flowers with red stamens are borne in early summer
Double Azalea Series are tall snapdragons with open-throated flowers, extra petals giving a ruffled effect. 'Double Azalea Bronze' has richly coloured orange-apricot flowers in spikes to 1 metre, from late June onwards
R. quinquefolium is a deciduous shrub, the leaves often having a narrow, reddish-brown border, and developing good autumn colour. The hanging, white, bell-shaped flowers have green spots inside and open singly, or in small clusters, with the leaves, in mid to late spring
R. viscosum is a bushy deciduous shrub to 2.5m tall, with dark leaves glaucous beneath. Very fragrant, narrowly funnel-shaped white flowers, up to 4cm wide, flushed deep pink on the tube, open in early to mid summer
R. schlippenbachii is a deciduous, rounded shrub to 5m tall; leaf whorls, at the branch tips, with purplish-red young leaves, become dark green above and paler beneath through the season, culminating with yellow, orange and crimson in autumn. Pale to mid pink or white flowers appear just before, or with the leaves, in late spring. They are spotted on the upper lobes with dark pink and sometimes lightly-scented
R. luteum is a bushy deciduous shrub of open growth to 4m tall, with oblong leaves turning orange, purple and red in autumn. Very fragrant bright yellow, funnel-shaped flowers, 5cm in width, are produced in late spring and early summer
R. occidentale is a bushy deciduous shrub, to 3m tall, with glossy mid-green foliage, glaucous beneath, turning orange and yellow in autumn. Fragrant, funnel-shaped flowers, to 10cm in width, are white, sometimes tinged with pink, and blotched yellow within, in early summer
R. viscosum f. rhodanthe is a bushy, deciduous shrub to 2.5m tall, with dark leaves blue-green beneath. Very fragrant, narrowly funnel-shaped, pale pink flowers up to 4cm wide open from dark pink buds in early to mid-summer
