It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
C. ochroleuca is a compact, clump-forming, evergreen perennial to 30cm tall with foliage divided into oval light green leaflets that are paler beneath. Dense clusters of white flowers tipped with bright yellow, each up to 1.5cm long, are borne from late spring into summer
'Père David' is a mat-forming plant to 15cm tall, with blue-green leaves and greenish-blue flowers in late spring and early summer
'China Blue' is a rhizomatous perennial forming a mat of divided, purple-tinged leaves that die down in summer, wth 2-lipped light blue flowers 2.5cm long in clusters of leafy stems to 30cm tall, in late spring and early summer
C. schanginii subsp. ainii is a tender tuberous perennial to 30cm, with divided foliage and lax racemes of fragrant bright yellow flowers, marked with dark brown in the mouth and with a slender white spur
C. solida is a tuberous perennial to 25cm in height, with grey-green, divided leaves and narrow, dense, terminal racemes of pale pink, purple or white flowers 2cm in length in spring
'Purple Leaf' is a compact, mat-forming plant to 15cm tall, with blue-green leaves splashed with purple near the midrib and blue flowers with a purple tinge in late spring and early summer
C. decipiens is a vigorous tuberous perennial to 25cm in height, with grey-green, divided leaves and erect racemes of two-lipped purple flowers in spring
'Blue Panda' is an erect, summer-dormant perennial to 30cm with highly divided leaves, blue-green sometimes flushed with purple. The slender-tubed, electric turquoise-blue flowers are produced in dense sprays from late spring to summer
C. solida subsp. incisa is a tuberous herbaceous perennial to 25cm, with divided, grey-green leaves and erect racemes of pale purple flowers in spring
'Chocolate Stars' is a mounding, evergreen perennial to 40cm high with leaves divided into ovate, scallop-edged leaflets. Foliage is a reddish-brown in autumn and winter with bronze tints in spring and shading to olive green in late spring and summer. Slender, tubular, lilac-pink flowers are borne on upright stems above the leaves in spring
