It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Sekkan-sugi' is a small, conical evergreen tree, to 10m tall, with semi-pendulous branches. The soft, awl-shaped leaves are a pale creamy-yellow colour when young, maturing to a dark green with yellow tints in winter
'Globosa Nana' is an evergreen dwarf conifer forming a dense, dome-shaped plant with rich green awl-shaped leaves closely appressed to the shoots
'Elegans Viridis' is a bushy, dense coniferous tree of conical habit up to 9m tall. Its soft, feathery, pale green juvenile foliage is retained throughout the tree's life
'Little Sonja' is a dwarf, evergreen conifer reaching a height and spread of 50cm in ten years with soft, green, spirally-arranged, awl-shaped leaves
'Elegans Aurea' is a slow-growing, upright, evergreen conifer forming a large shrub, or small tree, up to 10m high. It has cinnamon-coloured bark and bright green, feathery, juvenile foliage turning yellow-green in winter
'Bandai-sugi' is a slow-growing medium-sized evergreen conifer to 2m, with an irregularly rounded outline and very dense foliage, with short awl-shaped needles turning bronze in winter
'Little Champion' is an evergreen, dwarf conifer forming a dense, dome-shaped plant with narrow, bright green leaves lying close to the stem, giving a corded effect
'Spiralis' is a slow-growing, semi-dwarf, evergreen conifer with narrow, wedge-shaped needles which are curved and spirally-twisted around the shoots. Young plants have a ragged outline, developing into a spreading dome and ultimately a tall cone up to 6m tall
'Tilford Gold' is an evergreen, dwarf conifer forming a dense, dome-shaped plant with sharply-pointed, but soft, foliage giving a moss-like effect. New growth is creamy yellow and bronze tints develop in winter
'Vilmoriniana' is a dwarf conifer growing slowly to form a dense, globose bush, with short needles turning reddish-purple in winter
