This plant will provide nectar and pollen for bees and the many other types of pollinating insects.
It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
G. victoriae is a rounded, evergreen shrub, with upright or spreading branchlets and lance-shaped, greyish-green leaves. From late autumn to spring produces hanging, honeysuckle-like flower clusters with orange buds opening to pink
'Jenkinsii' is an evergreen shrub of spreading or arching habit up to 2m or more in mild districts, less in cooler areas. The stiff, narrow, rosemary-like leaves are dark green and often have prickly tips. Short, dense clusters of pink and cream tubular flowers are produced from late winter to summer
G. juniperina f. sulphurea is an evergreen, rounded, bushy shrub, 1 to 2m tall, with needle-like, recurved leaves and clusters of small, pale yellow flowers in spring and summer
G. johnsonii is an evergreen shrub to about 2.5m with leaves deeply lobed into narrow, needle-like leaflets. Terminal clusters of pink and red flowers appear in summer
G. rosmarinifolia is an evergreen shrub of loose, spreading, graceful habit, to 2m in mild districts, maybe only to 1m in British gardens. Leaves are rosemary-like, rigid, linear, dark green, to 5cm long and often have prickly tips. Flowers are typically deep rose-red, borne in dense terminal clusters from late winter through to late summer
'Olympic Flame' is a compact, rounded shrub, to 2m tall, with small, pointed leaves and dense, slightly pendant clusters of deep pink and white flowers throughout the year
'Canberra Gem' is a vigorous medium-sized evergreen shrub of rounded habit, with rigid, linear leaves, and bright deep pink flowers in clusters from late winter to late summer
'Mount Tamboritha' is a spreading, low-growing, bushy, evergreen shrub to about 80cm with small, narrow, hairy, green or grey-green leaves and 6cm-wide clusters of pinkish red and cream flowers produced virtually all year round
G. robusta is a fast-growing evergreen tree to 20m or more, but is usually grown as an annual for foliage effect making a bushy shrub to 3m. Olive-green, fern-like leaves to 30cm in length, paler beneath. Racemes of tubular yellow flowers are produced only by mature plants
