It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'White Garden' is a bulbous perennial with strap-shaped, deciduous leaves. Multiple white flowers with a green centre, each up to 19cm in diameter, are borne from winter into early spring on sturdy, upright stems to 60cm tall
'Orange Souvereign' is a perennial bulb with dark green strap-shaped leaves and stout stems to 45cm in height bearing up to 6 funnel-shaped orange flowers up to 15cm across
'Desire' is a deciduous, bulbous perennial with long, strap-shaped leaves, and from winter into early spring, large, salmon-red flowers with darker orange-red veining borne on stout stems to 60cm high
'Belinda' is a bulbous perennial to 50cm in height, with strap-shaped leaves and funnel-shaped deep crimson flowers to 18cm across, shading to scarlet in centre
H. papilio is a robust species producing abundant leafy growth. Flowers are borne 2 or 3 to a stem, to 50cm tall, and have distinctive colouring, the greenish-white tepals strongly streaked and edged with dark red. The lower pair of tepals, widely spread and pointed, suggesting the "butterfly" specific name. This is potentially an evergreen species, unless grown with managed dormancy, and may flower twice a year, in spring and autumn
'Challenger' is a bulbous perennial to around 70cm tall with deciduous, strap-shaped, semi-erect leaves. Three to four large white flowers shaded with pale green are borne on each sturdy, upright stem in winter and early spring
'Bestseller' is a bulbous perennial with strap-shaped dark green leaves and funnel-shaped deep cerise flowers to 15cm across, up to six in an umbel on a stout stem to 35cm in height
'Red Garden' is a bulbous perennial to 60cm tall with deciduous, strap-shaped leaves and multiple deep orange to scarlet red, funnel-shaped flowers borne on each flowering stem in winter and early spring
'Rosario' is a tender, bulbous perennial with narrowly strap-shaped leaves. Stems to 60cm tall bear flowers to 15cm across with narrow, spidery white petals with dark pink to red central makings and speckles. This cultivar is considered to be predominantly evergreen once the bulbs have been established
R. bifida is a summer-deciduous, bulbous perennial, producing umbels of up to 5 narrowly funnel-shaped, bright, deep-red flowers in summer or early autumn, before or just as the new foliage emerges
