P. tenax Purpureum Group is a robust evergreen perennial with dull coppery-purple, strap-shaped leaves to 2m in length. Flowers reddish, in large panicles to 3m or taller
'Variegatum' is a clump-forming evergreen perennial with erect, strap-shaped leaves to 1.8m in length, green striped with cream towards the margins. Flowers dull red, in large panicles
'Yellow Wave' is an evergreen, clump-forming perennial with arching, strap-shaped leaves to 1m in length, heavily striped with bright yellow. Flowers seldom produced
'Sundowner' is an evergreen perennial forming a clump of erect leaves to 1m or more, bronze-green striped towards the margins with red and pink. Flowers yellowish, seldom produced
'Duet' is an evergreen perennial up to 80cm in height, with sword-shaped leaves green in the centre, variegated with cream along the margins. Flowers yellowish, seldom produced
P. tenax is a robust evergreen perennial making a medium-sized clump of dark grey-green, strap-shaped leaves. Tubular, dull red flowers about 4cm in length, in a panicle to 4m in height
'Maori Queen' (v) is an evergreen, clump-forming perennial to 90cm tall. Upright bronze-green, strap-shaped leaves, drooping at the tips have rose-red stripes. Panicles of tubular yellowish flowers are borne in summer.
Black velvet 'Sievel' is a clump-forming, evergreen perennial growing to 90cm tall. Its arching, sword-shaped leaves are almost black and it will occasionally produce tall panicles of tubular, red-purple flowers in summer
