'Variegata' is a medium-sized single-stemmed evergreen shrub with stiff, spine-tipped leaves striped and edged creamy-yellow. Bell-shaped cream flowers in broad panicles to 2m in height appear in late summer and autumn
Y. gloriosa is a medium-sized evergreen shrub with usually a single stem, topped by a cluster of spine-tipped, stiff, glaucous-green leaves to 60cm in length. Panicles to 2m in height, of nodding, bell-shaped cream flowers in late summer
'Ivory' is a small, stemless evergreen shrub forming a clump of dark green, sword-shaped leaves tending to droop at the tips. Bell-shaped, creamy-white flowers 6cm in length, are borne freely in erect panicles to 1.2m in height
'Bright Edge' is a small evergreen shrub forming stemless clumps of sword-shaped leaves to 60cm in length, with wide, bright yellow margins. Panicles of nodding creamy-white, bell-shaped flowers may be produced in late summer on stems to 1.5m in height
Y. whipplei produces a dense, dome-shaped rosette of narrow, spine-tipped, grey-blue, evergreen leaves, to about 1m. Mature plants produce massive flower spikes, potentially to 5m though usually less in gardens. These comprise a stout stem with masses of scented, hanging, bell-shaped, ivory flowers in late summer. Flowers and stem may be flushed with reddish-purple
Y. baccata is a slow-growing, evergreen shrub to 1.6m tall usually seen in cultivation with a single crown of leaves; a small trunk may form as the plant ages. The blue-green, sword-shaped leaves 30-100cm long are tipped with a sharp point, curve inwards and edged with small threads. Spikes of creamy-white, bell-shaped flowers sometimes shaded purple-red are borne above the foliage in summer and may be followed by edible, banana-shaped fruit
Y. rostrata is a tree yucca up to around 3.5m high, with one or more woody stems, and a sphere of narrow, smooth, spine-tipped, blue-green leaves; they are 60-90cm long but only 1.3-2.5cm wide, and are rigid near the stem but flexible after the widest point, so that they move in even a slight breeze. The flowering stalk is up to 1.5m long with white flowers in summer or autumn
Y. filifera eventually forms a tall, sparsely-branched evergreen tree but is usually seen in cultivation with a single, short trunk. The stiff, spine-tipped leaves, up to 50cm long, have peeling, thread-like edges and are arranged in a dense rosette. Mature plants produce large, hanging clusters of creamy, bell-shaped flowers
Bright Star is an evergreen shrub to 1.5m tall and 1.8m wide. The variegated, stiff, sharp-pointed leaves have a mid-green centre broadly-edged with yellow. Mature plants can produce flower spikes in summer; comprising pink buds that open to a mass of white flowers
'Colour Guard' forms rosettes of evergreen leaves, rich green with a broad, central, pale yellow stripe. Panicles of creamy-white, bell-shaped flowers are produced in mid- to late summer on 1-2m tall stems
