Objectives and purpose of the trial

This trial explores how well salad potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) grow in containers, focusing on their flavour, texture and naturally appealing shape. Since these small to medium potatoes are harvested young, they grow quickly and are ideal for home gardeners. The RHS trials team is comparing a broad range of first early, second early and maincrop varieties across two sites: RHS Garden Rosemoor in Devon and RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey. The best performers will be recognised with the RHS Recommended: Award of Garden Merit.
