A Little Escape

Back to Back Gardens
This design shows how even a small garden with no attractive borrowed landscape can fire the imagination. It features strong triangular shapes that draw the eye down to the eclectic planting based on the jungle paintings of Henri Rousseau. Although Rousseau never left France, he created dark, alluring tableaux of invented plants and wildlife, and imaginings of what lurks deep in the forest.

The lush green palette of plants incorporate different leaf shapes, sizes and textures and feature combinations that are not usually associated, such as Euphorbia, Fatsia, Hakonechloa and Catalpa.

The garden also features specially commissioned work from contemporary British ceramicist Jo Lee.
