Come along to one of the RHS Garden Bridgewater Home Education Workshops this September. Our free workshops offer hands-on sessions for home-educated children from 4 to 11 years. Through interactive learning, our workshops explore a range of topics from how plants grow, to where our food comes from, and, how plants can help us look after the planet.

Choose either:
- Discovering Plants Workshop for ages 4 to 8, 10:30am – 12noon
In this interactive journey through the garden, children begin to understand how plants grow and what they need to thrive. From the smallest shoots to the largest trees, children will identify the parts all plants share and how they are affected by the seasons. Children will use magnifying glasses, tape measures and take bark rubbings to make observations of a variety of trees, then plant a seed to take back home and germinate.

Or

- Investigating Plants Workshop for ages 8 to 12, 1pm - 2:30pm
Children will look at how plants can be classified into groups based on how they reproduce. Using handheld microscopes they’ll take an in-depth look at spores. Learners will consider evolution and look at some of the ways plants have adapted to suit different environments.

Dress for the weather! All workshops include time outdoors. Learners and their accompanying adults are welcome to spend time in the garden either side of their workshop. Please arrive 10 minutes before your booked workshop so all children are ready for the start time. All children must be accompanied by an adult in the garden and during the workshop (this is limited to one adult per child, per workshop). All children and adults need to have booked a ticket to attend RHS Garden Bridgewater on our Home Educator day.

Additional info

To help Learners get the most out of their experience, we have the following rules:
  • Attendees who are more than 10 minutes late to the session will not be admitted to the learning session or garden.
  • Workshops are tailored to children of a specific age range. Other children and siblings who do not fulfil the age requirement will not be allowed to take part.
  • Home educated children are entitled to take part in one pre-booked educational workshop per year to allow as many children as possible each calendar year to experience RHS Garden Bridgewater.
