Self-guided school visits at RHS Garden Harlow Carr

Use our resources to enjoy the self-guided part of your visit or to bring smaller groups of children

We are open for self-guided visits and guided learning workshops. Please check availability and book a self-guided visit.
Please check back in May when Guided Visit availability for September 2026 – March 2027 will be released.

Choose a self-guided visit to the garden

Bring your children to enjoy the gardens independently, taking part in your own activities or using our self-guided resources.

  • As well as the full programme of taught sessions at Harlow Carr, there is the opportunity for you to explore the garden on a self-guided visit

  • Children will get more out of their visit if they are in small, adult-led groups and have an activity to focus on

  • We have a collection of self-guided resources (below) for teachers to use on their visit to the garden

  • Most areas of the garden are available for use by self-guided groups to eat lunches

All pre-booked educational visits are free of charge. If you feel able to give a donation to the RHS to help support our educational work this would be much appreciated; we ask you to consider a donation of £3 per child for your visit.

Resources for self-guided school visits

Discover our range of materials and activities for self-guided groups to ensure you get the most out of your visit. Perhaps spend some time taking part in a scavenger hunt, identifying plants or solving a maths trail.

Please note: The Bramall Learning Centre can also be booked for off-site revision sessions.
