A mix of study and on-the-job learning provided me with the sound knowledge and skills needed to begin a career in ornamental horticulture

I have been working at RHS Garden Rosemoor since September 2016. Previous to this I took part in a year-long training programme studying for a level III Diploma in Horticulture. The program involved a mix of study and on-the-job learning, based at Rosemoor, and was a fantastic paid learning opportunity providing me with the sound knowledge and skills needed to begin a career in ornamental horticulture.

This move was a step forwards and sideways for me in my career path. I initially trained in conservation, working for organisations such as the National Trust and the Environment Agency. Through this previous work and training, I gained many transferable skills which I hope will come in handy while I work to further improve and maintain the beautiful garden at Rosemoor.
