Becki Smith

Horticulturist

I am always learning new things and working with plants that I haven’t encountered before, which makes the job really interesting!

I used to work in television production, but it wasn’t a job that made me happy, so having always loved gardens and gardening, I decided to pursue a career in horticulture.

Having made this decision I was fortunate enough to secure a place on the National Trust’s Academy Trainee scheme, based at Stourhead in Wiltshire. The scheme was a combination of working full time on site with the garden team, participating in all the tasks needed to maintain the garden, and residential blocks at college to back up the practical work with theory.

After finishing the three year scheme I was delighted to get a job here at Rosemoor. This garden is very different to the one at Stourhead, so I find I am always learning new things and working with plants that I haven’t encountered before, which makes the job really interesting!
