RHS Partner Garden Scheme rules

Guidlines for RHS Partner Gardens on how to apply free entry for RHS Members, covering eligibility, restrictions and entry requirements

1. Eligibility for free RHS Member entry
  • Individual RHS Members receive free entry during designated free RHS Member days
  • For Joint RHS Memberships, only the member whose card shows a * symbol is entitled to free entry
  • Free entry does not apply to guests
  • Free entry applies to gardens only, not adjoining houses, castles or other attractions
2. Variations between gardens
  • Some RHS Partner Gardens offer free entry whenever they are open, while others limit free entry to selected days or times
  • Please ensure your free entry details are clear, accurate and up to date on your website
3. Opening times and visitor information
  • RHS Members are encouraged to check opening dates and times before travelling
  • Please keep opening information updated both on the RHS Partner Garden pages and on own website
4. Membership card requirements
  • A valid physical RHS Membership card must be shown for free entry
  • Digital versions, scans or photos cannot be accepted
  • If a member cannot present a valid card or their membership has expired, free entry should be refused
  • RHS Membership cards are not transferable
5. New Members
  • Free entry begins once the new member receives their membership card
  • Members awaiting their card may present a confirmation email dated within the last month as temporary proof of membership (this guidance replaces the information in previous RHS Members’ Handbooks)
6. Special events and bank holidays
  • Free RHS Member entry does not apply to special events such as plant fairs, exhibitions or shows unless you choose to offer it
  • Not all gardens offer free entry on bank holidays. Please make any exclusions clear to visitors
7. Group visits
  • Free entry does not apply to RHS Members visiting as part of an organised group
  • Please provide your usual group rates and booking details
