A fast-growing deciduous tree, to around 20m high, with broadly oval to diamond-shaped, glossy green leaves with bluntly toothed edges and pointed tips. Leaves are aromatic when opening, and slender catkins are produced in spring, ripening on female trees to fluffy white seeds
