A deciduous shrub or small tree with a compact, rounded habit. Leaves are broadly ovate, dark green with scalloped edges, and turn shades of yellow in autumn. Produces lightly scented flowers on bare stems in late winter and early spring, with long, narrow, pale lemon yellow petals and green sepals at the base
