Rare in cultivation, this upright, deciduous tree grows slowly to about 5m in height, with almost circular, 9-11 lobed dark green leaves, white beneath, to 10cm across, turning orange-yellow in autumn. Purplish-red late spring flowers in clusters, are followed by purplish-yellow strongly veined winged fruits in autumn
