A deciduous tree, up to 10m high, with young shoots covered with yellow-brown woolly hairs. Leaves are pinnate, divided into up to 15 oval to elliptic leaflets, and turn bright red in autumn. Upright clusters of small yellow flowers, covered with rust-coloured woolly hairs, are produced in spring
