An evergreen shrub or small tree, ranging in height from 2-6m. Leaves are narrow and slightly stiff, up to 12cm long, with deeply impressed veins on the surface, and fine white felting on the undersides which turns tawny yellow or grey as the leaves mature. Produces clusters of 6-10 small, broadly bell-shaped flowers in mid spring, in shades of white, pale pink and pale purple, with purple flecks on the upper petals
