Small, evergreen tree about 4m tall, with green stems. Oval wavy-edged leaves with prominent spines are pink-tinged when young, the mature leaves are dark green with faint marbling, and creamy-white margins. Small white male flowers appear in late spring, ideal pollinator for female cultivars

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in moist but well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Although partial shade is suitable, variegated cultivars have better leaf colour in full sun

Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in late summer or early autumn or propagate by hardwood cuttings in January with bottom heat
