Grow in light, moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Best in full sun but can tolerate light, partial shade. Provide protection over the winter
Propagate by seed sown at 15-18°C or by semi-ripe cuttings in summer
Remove flower spikes as they fade to prolong flowering. Trim away faded flowers and stems above new growth appearing in spring
May be susceptible to honey fungus (rarely), Powdery mildews, Verticillium wilt and foot and root rots
