RHS Shrubs Trees
A fast-growing, very hardy evergreen large shrub to tree, reaching a mature height of around 7m. The very large, highly aromatic, round, jade-green foliage grows to resemble extra-large bay leaves, sometimes with a purple tinge. The bark is smooth and greenish-yellow to greyish-brown and masses of small, white flowers appear from July to August. Tolerates wet soils and shady areas and a good choice for a quick-growing screen. May also provide a roosting area for small birds such as goldfinches in winter . Foliage may shred in high winds
