Deciduous species climber to 3m tall, with light green coarse, slightly hairy foliage divided into lobed leaflets and single, fleshy, reddish-purple nodding, broadly bell-shaped flowers white on the insides, to 7cm long with pointed tepals, produced from late spring to early summer, then a few flowers later in the summer

How to Grow

Cultivation

Plant in moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots and base of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Plant with the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. See clematis cultivation
