A short, spiny deciduous shrub about 1m tall, of spreading habit, with glossy, mid-green leaves. Single, deep crimson-red flowers with prominent golden anthers, are followed by aromatic green fruit ripening to yellow in autumn. These can be used to make jams and jellies but please see notes on toxicity for further advice
