A small, deciduous tree with deep purple shoots and red-purple young leaves becoming dark green and tinged with purple on the undersides. Pale pink flowers appear in racemes to 12cm in length in spring, followed by small, black fruits

Grow in moderately fertile soil in full sun
Propagate by chip budding or grafting, although softwood cuttings in early summer with bottom heat can be successful
Pruning group 1. Prune in mid-summer if silver leaf is a problem
May be susceptible to damage from aphids, caterpillars and bullfinches
May be susceptible to peach leaf curl, silver leaf, bacterial canker, blossom wilt and honey fungus
