A very large, evergreen tree that reaches approximately 25-40 metres in height. It has a narrow, pyramidal shape when young that broadens as it matures. It has blueish-grey, awl-shaped leaves 6-12mm long arranged spirally round the shoots and a reddish-brown, soft and fibrous trunk. Upright cones appear after flowering and when ripe, the reddish-brown cones (5-8cm) hang down. Ideally suited to being planted as a specimen in a large park or garden.
