Zen Garden

Artisan Gardens

Set in the ‘satoyama’ – the foothills between mountain and low-lying agricultural land of Japan, designer Kazuyuki Ishihara has created a zen garden in which the owner may reclaim a simplified life. The garden is a space designed to focus attention on nature and how to live mindfully. Each component is carefully placed to represent different elements of the natural landscape including mountains and natural springs.

The black granite stripes set in the stone garden create harmony between the foliage and vertical lattice of the structure. The rock garden is an antithesis to the moving water.

The woodland planting including Acer, pine, Enkianthus perulatus, Farfugium and mosses while at the waterside iris bloom.

Zen Garden's garden house will be produced in collaboration with Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, designer of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Stadium.
