Hanging Gardens of Botanica

A contemporary, ambitious and contemplative houseplant exhibit that takes inspiration from the mythical Hanging Gardens of Babylon to demonstrate the process of evapotranspiration

Houseplant Studios

The Studio

Taking inspiration from the mythical Hanging Gardens of Babylon to demonstrate the process of evapotranspiration, this contemporary, ambitious and contemplative houseplant exhibit sees a total of 12 vertical gardens suspended in terracotta Bergs pots on the inside and outside of the studio, emulating the water cycle.

The Hanging Gardens of Botanica carry an important message about water conservation and looking after this precious resource. Botanica Studio wants to inspire creativity with houseplant arrangements, while showcasing the natural role each plant plays in the water cycle and how rainwater harvesting is the best way to keep houseplants healthy and thriving in the home.

Stepping inside this sensory space, visitors will witness the interaction between plants and water, enjoying the calming trickle of precipitation, the gentle aroma of moss as it wicks away and a cooling mist created from evaporation. Each irrigated hanging water garden will celebrate a different plant genus that is popular within the houseplant community, including Philodendron, Monstera, Anthurium, Epipremnum and Alocasia, surrounded by mixed planting in moss, terracotta and glass.

These key plants are very popular in the houseplant community and are easy to care for:

About the designers at Botanica Studio

Botanica Studio has grown into a safe and welcoming space for all plant lovers to explore the tactile nature of houseplants. Whether helping someone choose their first ever plant or getting nerdy with a seasoned collector of rare alocasias, the team takes great pride in the community they have forged. Their aim is to make everyone welcome and feel inspired when they leave.

Sustainability

The Hanging Gardens of Botanica will be promoting environmental responsibility by highlighting the importance of water conservation and how houseplants can be arranged to create eco systems that require less of this precious resource.

Every Houseplant Studio has a life beyond the show, as each building is carefully relocated to new homes in people’s gardens.
