Lovehoney presents: Aphrodite’s Hothouse
An exhibit that celebrates personal pleasure and sexual freedom, somewhat taboo topics that should be considered as natural as houseplants are to indoor gardeners
Houseplant Studios
The Studio
Conceived as ‘the ultimate pleasure garden’, this boundary-pushing hothouse is lush, fragrant and just a little bit naughty. Visitors are invited to step inside and wander through a ‘Tunnel of Love’ dripping with sultry orchids, glistening Anthurium, pendulous Nepenthes and wandering vines that coil and entwine with knowing intent.
This indoor garden teases. Among the exuberant foliage, sculptural forms peek out, subtly blurring the line between botanical curiosity and boudoir wink. Devotions to love, flirtation, lust and longing create a deliciously daring celebration of plant sexuality, lending the space a very intimate feel. Plants, after all, have been performing elaborate seductions for millennia. Expect a few raised eyebrows and very close inspection of the planting scheme. It won’t be just the Philodendron erubescens blushing.
Key plants
Many of these have heart shaped leaves, flowers and bracts as well as suggestive forms.
Also, featuring Zantedeschia (calla lily) in a variety of colours, which are often seen as being short-lived houseplants in the commercial world. The beauty of them is that they can also be grown outdoors during the warmer seasons and have long lasting, vibrant blooms which can be enjoyed as a cut flower. Their sculptural form and upright habit lend themselves to the houseplant studio design and fit the storyline perfectly.
