Crescendo

Back to Back Gardens

In more detail

  • Purple is a dominant flower colour, with perennials such as Salvia nemorosa 'Blue Bouquetta', Salvia 'Amistad' and Polemonium caeruleum giving height and interest; silver-blue grass Festuca glauca boosts the tone
  • The music theme runs throughout the garden with a ‘piano’ deck, drum cymbals adorning the walls, and greenhouse down pipes looking like tubular bells

About the garden

This garden is a fusion of the designer’s two passions – music and plants. The planting rises front to back to form the crescendo from which the garden takes its name.

The piano-keyboard-style deck is reached by drum-skin stepping stones, made from hoggin self-binding gravel contained in metal drumhead hoops.

Percussive sounds accompany the visitor as they walk through the garden.
