Great Gardens of the USA: The Oregon Garden

World Gardens

Did you know...

  • Among the impressive flowering plants used in this garden is annual Agrostemma githago 'Ocean Pearl,' a fine selection of our native UK (and usually pink) corncockle. It features extra large, pure while flowers marked with dark speckles and is easily raised from seed in spring.
  • Other plants to look out for in this garden include Darmera peltata with its large rounded leaves and unusual Juncus decipiens 'Curley Wurly' with its spiral stems, both plants growing poolside. You will also see an apple, current bushes, a grapevine and hazel trees included in the planting.

About the garden

This garden captures the natural beauty of the landscape and gardens of Oregon. It takes inspiration from the mountains and rich heritage of fruit and timber production that is found in the region.

The garden backdrop is made up of rocky outcrops, which represent Oregon’s mountains. At the centre of
the space is a clear pool fed by a waterfall. The planting wraps around the seating and water feature areas, creating sinuous curving shapes. Key planting includes Ammi majus, Deschampia cespitosa and Achillea
