Growing bromeliads at home
Bromeliads are epiphytes commonly grown as glasshouse and conservatory plants in the UK. They hail from tropical zones and add exotic and bold colour to any houseplant display
We share with you our love and passion for bromeliads, and show you how we would have staged our displays for this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Our exhibit shows bromeliads set in a natural display and includes Tillandsia styled as they would grow in their natural habitats. All the plants we show are in a new nursery, which is home to National Plant Collections of three genera – Aechmea, Billbergia and Neoregelia. Since we're showing you how we build a display for Chelsea you'll see more plant selections than would usually be seen. The ‘build’ is shown in stages so that you can see the work and decision making that goes on behind the scenes. Usually visitors only see the end result – a beautiful exhibit of spectacular plants.
We include information on growing these beautiful plants and talk about their natural habits, history and some of the genus in the bromeliad family.
