At RHS Garden Harlow Carr, 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the development of gardens and to celebrate, the Harlow Carr Library is displaying previously unseen photographs from the RHS Lindley Library Archives.

This collection of black and white photographs charts the early stages of the garden’s development and the people who helped shape the garden, under the then stewardship of the Northern Horticultural Society. From the outset, the society recognised the 'immense possibilities for a layout upon a most attractive scale: woodland with avenues and shaded walks, stream, pool and water gardens, glades with specimen trees and space for borders and gardens devoted to the needs of the average gardener'.

Come and see these photographs for yourself and immerse yourself in a little of the garden’s history.

Please note: The exhibition will run from 21 June–16 July and then again 7 September–30 October.
