A deciduous shrub or small tree with oval-shaped dark green foliage, variegated with a bright golden yellow patch in the centre of the leaf. The foliage becomes orange to dark crimson red through the autumn. Cup-shaped creamy white flowers (bracts) appear in the summer, turning pink as they mature
