A slow-growing, sparsely-branched large shrub eventually reaching up to 8m tall. Its evergreen, oblong to elliptic leaves up to 16cm long are dark green above and covered with a fine, tawny felt beneath. Ball-shaped trusses to 20cm in diameter of 15-30 bell-shaped, soft yellow flowers sometimes stained with pink are borne in spring
