An upright, spiny, deciduous shrub with a columnar habit and small, oval-shaped foliage which emerges yellow in spring, turns grey-green variegated with cream in summer and eventually orange-red in the autumn. Small yellow flowers appear in spring, followed by bright red berries in the autumn
