A strongly upright, narrow, deciduous, spiny shrub. The leaves open coral-pink in spring, maturing to dusky red with a very narrow gold rim, though shaded foliage may turn lime green. Hanging clusters of small, yellow flowers in late spring and early summer are followed by red berries
