A vigorous, semi-evergreen or deciduous climber about 4m tall, with long-stalked, dark, glossy green leaves. Panicles of fragrant, star-shaped white flowers appear on the current years growth from September until the first frosts, followed by attractive seedheads; profuse flowering only occurs after a hot summer. Great for covering walls, fences or pergolas and will tolerate some shade

How to grow

Cultivation

Plant in a moisture-retentive, well-drained soil, with the roots and base of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. Plant with the crown 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. See clematis cultivation
