A small, broadly conical, deciduous tree about 7m tall with large mid-green leavess. Lightly-scented, large, tulip shaped flowers with 12 tepals, opening in spring before the leaves, are dark purplish-pink in bud, fading to white at the tips when open, and white inside, the petals curve outwards at the top to give a crown-like appearance; free-flowering in autumn

Cultivation
