A dense, compact, dwarf, bushy deciduous shrub to around 100cm in height with young bronze foliage, turning to glossy dark green and, unusually, curving downwards. Trusses of bell-shaped, rose-red flowers with darker margins appear from April to May. Tolerates sunny conditions well

How to Grow

Cultivation

Grow in moist but well-drained, leafy humus-rich, acid soil in a sunny to partly shady location with shelter from cold winds; see rhododendron cultivation. If growing indoors, place in a cool, light well-ventilated spot out of direct sunlight. See rhododendron cultivation for further advice

Propagate by semi-ripe cuttings in late summer, layering in autumn or grafting in late summer or late winter
