A spiny, deciduous shrub to 1.5m tall, upright when young then becoming more open with age, and oval-shaped bright green leaves to 3cm long that turn orange-red in autumn. Small, red-flushed, pale yellow flowers appear in spring followed by bright red berries in the autumn
