It is included in an evolving list of plants carefully researched and chosen by RHS experts. Divided into 3 groups these lists, linked below, are maintained by a team of RHS staff and are reviewed annually.
'Chameleon' is a deciduous shrub to 1.5m tall and wide. Leaves emerge green in spring with an irregular yellow edge and as the seasons progress, the green colour darkens to a wine red and then a deep purple-brown. Pinkish-white flowers are borne in summer
'Burning Embers' is a bushy, deciduous shrub to 2m tall with dark maroon-coloured leaves and clusters of small, pinkish-white flowers in summer followed by brown fruits
'Red Baron' is a deciduous, suckering shrub with red stems and dark red foliage. Pinky-white flower clusters are borne in early summer, maturing to give small red fruits. Height to around 1.5-2m
'Anny's Gold' is a medium-sized, deciduous shrub to 1.5m tall with green to golden-yellow leaves and clusters of white flowers in summer followed by red fruits
'Luteus' is a deciduous shrub forming an extensive thicket of stems to 3m tall, bearing maple-like, 3-lobed leaves, yellow when young, and rounded clusters of small pink-tinged white flowers in summer, followed by small bladdery fruits
Diable D'or is an upright, deciduous shrub with red-bronze young foliage, darkening to red-purple as it matures. It bears clusters of small, white flowers in summer followed by small, bright red berries
'Schuch' is a suckering deciduous shrub with vibrant red foliage. Flower clusters in early summer are white, becoming pink. Eventual height 2-3m
Lady in Red is a deciduous shrub with fresh red foliage toning to a brown- bronze as the season progresses. It bears clusters of pink flowers in summer
Midnight is a bushy shrub to 1.8m tall with dark purple foliage and pink-tinted white flowers in summer followed by purple fruit
'Andre' is a deciduous dark-leaved shrub to 2m tall and wide. Young foliage is a bright red and matures to darker shades of red, purple, bronze and brown with pinkish-white clusters of flowers borne in summer
