• The density of planting ensures every inch of space is filled, both with plants at ground level as well as trees such as silver birch and pencil cypress

This garden takes inspiration from the festival’s theme of the Great Exhibition of 1851, organised by Prince Albert. Entrepreneurs from around the world were invited to display their raw materials, present the manufacturing process and showcase the finished products in the vast exhibition at London’s purpose-built Crystal Palace.

The Perfumer’s Garden celebrates the three notes that a perfume contains: the light, transient scent of the head, the longer lasting fragrance of the heart, and the deep earthy tones of the base. Planting includes vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides), a perennial Indian bunchgrass, sweetly-scented tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa), which is native to Mexico, and various citrus plants.
