The Spirit of the Woods

Show Gardens

Did you know...

  • This garden is lush and serene yet full of visual interest - in particular from the many different cultivars of Japanese maples Acer which have particularly vivid leaves at this time of year
  • Skillful underplantings of ferns and other shade-tolerant plants means that every corner of this site is fully used and offers something to visitors

About the Garden

Using sculpture as a medium, this garden explores our spiritual connection with nature. The main vista looks onto a tranquil, serene face set in a stone grotto above a small dripping pool surrounded by moss and ferns. Behind is an oak woodland with the Malvern Hills providing the perfect backdrop.

Nestling within the trees is Sylph – a ballerina made from 1000 copper leaves, while The Whispering Spirit invites the onlooker to listen to her lips and hear an echo of water.

Each sculpture is framed individually within the garden and illustrates the importance of context when positioning pieces of art in a garden setting.
