Your chance to design a sensory pocket garden

Garden designers, community groups, charities and keen gardeners are invited to design and plant a sensory pocket at RHS Hampton Court

If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at designing a garden at an RHS Flower Show, here’s a perfect opportunity. We’re inviting you to submit an entry to the Sensory Pocket Planting category at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Festival. These are mini-gardens, much less daunting to create than our larger gardens, and a great entry point.   You have until 17 March, 2023 to send in your plans.

Located outside the Floral Marquee, the sensory pocket planting area will be made up of 10 irregular shaped beds – or ‘pockets’ – which designers can choose from to create their mini-garden.

The ‘sensory’ theme can be interpreted in many different ways.  Designs could focus on one of the five senses or they can explore how plants, planting and garden design can stimulate the senses.

The design should evoke emotion, celebrate and exemplify the positive impact plants have on our wellbeing, or be specifically for those with sensory needs or sensitivities.

Grants available for applicants

Each successful application will receive a grant of £300 from the RHS to support the installation of the design.

The deadline is Friday 17 March 2023.

This category is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience designing to a brief and staging an exhibit at an RHS Show for thousands of visitors to enjoy. Good luck!
