Our collections number more than 80,000 books and 100's of periodical titles covering garden history and design, practical gardening, botany, horticultural science, botanical art and much more.

We have more than 30,000 original botanical illustrations, and oil portraits. It is one of the most important and comprehensive botanical art collections in the country.

Our image collections give a unique insight into the social history of gardening, and are an important part of our nation’s cultural heritage.

Loans from the collections

We are happy to lend material for exhibition as a way of enabling a wider audience to see our collections and gain a deeper understanding of our gardening heritage. All loans are subject to the conditions set out in our loans policy.
