Upper Reading Room with exhibition on displayThe library holds unique collections of early printed books to modern titles on botanical art, the history of horticulture and practical gardening.

It also holds the Botanical Art collection of the RHS, the archives of the RHS and the personal archives of notable gardeners and garden designers.

Library on two floors

The Upper Reading Room allows open access to our lending library and free public exhibition area. See our exhibitions & events.

The Research Room is open by advanced appointment to provide access to our reference and heritage collections. See our appointment calendar for open days.

Disabled Access

There is step-free access into the RHS building via a ramped entrance, and into both our Upper Reading Room and Research Room by means of staff-operated lifts. 

The Upper Reading Room may also be accessed by three steps with a handrail for support. The Research Room is located downstairs.

Opening hours: The library is currently closed.
Normal opening hours are: Mon-Fri (excluding bank holidays) 10am to 5pm. Answerphone available outside these hours.
