Elizabethan embroiderers created ‘Sweetie Bags’ as containers for special gifts, presented to high ranking members of the aristocracy, to curry favour and display allegiance. Create your own miniature version depicting a hellebore or Christmas rose, in a choice of colours, and learn the key stitches employed by the Elizabethans such as counted stem stitch, shaded tent stitch, needlelace and use of metal threads and pearls. The completed purse can be hung on the Christmas tree to contain tiny gifts.

All the materials needed to complete this project are provided. Includes a light lunch and refreshments.

Tutor: Jenny Adin-Christie
