Help us Celebrate UK Fungus Day on Saturday 7 October as we invite you to join us for a long weekend filled with activities at RHS Garden Wisley. Learn about the importance of fungi to our lives and be inspired to help preserve our native fungi and improve our scientific knowledge of these unique and remarkable organisms.

Hilltop Live talks

Thur 5 and Fri 6 Oct at 11.30am and 2pm; and Sat 7 and Sun 8 Oct (times TBC)

Join our free talks to celebrate UK Fungus Day at Hilltop Live. Sessions are free to attend and last approximately 30 minutes.

  • 2pm – Fay Newbery ‘Incredible fungi that may be in your garden’
Friday 6 October
  • 11.30am – Helen Latham ‘Root killers: Honey fungus.  Meet one of the fungi that kills plants from the ground up, and find out how to manage it according to the latest RHS research.’
  • 2pm – Ruth Chitty ‘Cultivating fungi’

Free Fungi walks (Meeting at RHS Hilltop)

Thur 5 and Fri 6 Oct – taking place after Hilltop Live talks

Follow RHS Scientists on a guided tour to discover the fascinating fungi growing around RHS Garden Wisley. Cool autumn weather brings out the fruiting bodies of fungi, which appear in a wide range of shapes, colours and sizes to release fungal spores for reproduction.

The team will lead you into the garden from RHS Hilltop – The Home of Gardening Science to point out some of the best mushrooms, brackets, crusts, cups and stomach fungi that have emerged this season.

Learn about the features of mushrooms and other fungal forms to experience the beauty and intricacy of fungi. Hear about the roles fungi play in a garden ecosystem, how the fungal kingdom of life differs from plants and animals, and have your own questions answered by our scientists.

You will also be invited to handle stunning specimens and report on your own fungal finds from around the garden. Our science team will be on hand to discuss all things fungi and answer your questions.
